Shawn Ferguson Available Now

I have over seven years of experience working for the Board of Veterans’ Appeals, where I developed a thorough understanding of VA Disability Law and the process of handling claims. Now, I apply that experience to advocate for veteran clients at the Deuterman Law Group. During my time at the Board, I worked under a veterans law judge, reviewing and drafting decisions in hundreds of appeals claims for veterans' benefits. My role allowed me to gain valuable insight into the challenges injured veterans face when navigating the benefits system, often enduring a lengthy and frustrating process. This motivated me to join DLG’s VA Disability team, where I strive to actively support veterans seeking benefits for service-connected injuries and conditions. I work out of the Wilmington office and focus exclusively on VA Disability matters. I earned my juris doctorate from Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, Virginia, in 2014. While in law school, I served as law review associate editor for the Appalachian Journal of Law and staff editor for the Appalachian Journal of Natural Resources Law. I was also treasurer of the Student Bar Association. Before law school, I graduated from Marshall University in my home state of West Virginia, earning a Regent’s Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus in biology. Before immersing myself in VA Disability law, I worked at The Aviation Law Firm in Annapolis, Maryland, where I gained experience in contracts, FAA enforcement actions, and aviation-related wrongful death claims. I also briefly worked part-time at the Kurland Law Group in Rockville, Maryland, handling bankruptcy matters. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors, whether hiking, running, fishing, or golfing. I live in Wilmington with my wife, our two dogs, and two cats.
