About David Scher
David L. Scher has been a partner at Block OโToole & Murphy since 2012, and became President of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association (NYSTLA) in 2023. Prior to his career in personal injury law, Mr. Scher worked for the Office of the New York State Attorney General, volunteered for a Civil Rights legal aid clinic, and clerked for New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich. He attended Tufts University and Fordham University School of Law.
Since joining BOM in 2003, Mr. Scher has focused his practice primarily on representing construction accident victims, as well as those seriously harmed in motor vehicle collisions and other accidents. In his tenure with the firm, he has resolved dozens of multi-million dollar cases.
In 2020, Mr. Scher was the only lawyer in the United States to handle three of the nationโs top 50 Settlements. He has returned a $15 million settlement for a wrongful death, and a $12 million settlement for an injured union worker.
Mr. Scher is known both for his legal writing skills and his mastery of New York State Labor Law. While running the firmโs complex motion and appellate practice, he authors articles on construction accident law topics that appear in New York Law Journal and Bill of Particulars magazine. He was selected to write an amicus curiae brief to the New York State Court of Appeals on behalf of 5,000 trial lawyers for a significant case involving a workplace accident; the Court's decision adopted the brief's position, and expanded the rights of people laboring at dangerous heights.
Mr. Scherโs advocacy for workers includes Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) litigation. He successfully represented restaurant workers and municipal employees who were being underpaid. He has also represented victims of wrongful termination, sexual abuse, and negligent security.
Apart from his legal work, Mr. Scher is a proud Committee Member for an annual fundraising event that supports the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
